If you are a first time mom, then always keep in mind that breastfeeding is an essential and natural way to provide nutrients and immunization to your newborn baby and every woman starts her mom's role from this task. Breast milk is the best and essential food for newborn baby's growth. You have to always take precaution that while you are breastfeeding, ensure that the baby can breathe easily through his nose.
Newborn babies do not require more than sponge bath but during bath you have to handle the baby with special care till the umbilical stump falls down. Once the umbilical stump falls down (i.e. after two to three days from the birth) and baby holds his head (i.e.after three, four months), it is comparatively easier to give a bath to the baby. Use the shampoo and soap which wont prove harmful to your baby’s eyes.
It is always advisable to massage your baby in any stage of his growth but it's not the same in case of babies who are ill or suffering from cuts, surgery or any skin abrasions.
If you want your baby to become talkative and always with a smile, then keep smiling and talking with your baby which will help to enhance your baby's senses and they will be able to give feedback to your smiles and talks.
If your baby is an irregular sleeper, then dress him or her in warm clothes or try to use long sleeve footed pajamas and also try to avoid late night diaper change for your baby's calm sleep.
