Parenting is the center of dilemmas, and being a parent you desire that your child is a well disciplined kid. Many a times there is confusion on whether to punish your child or not in order to induce discipline in them.
Most of parents think that punishing for bad behavior is the right way of making a child realize that he/she behaves properly. But every coin has two sides, punishing kids also has its own pros and cons.
Sometimes punishment may go wrong as it often makes your child resentful and takes their attention off from the real cause of punishment. They start feeling bad and it will make your relationship with them completely spoiled. It may even happen that your child may go through the phase of extreme low self-respect.
Instead of just punishing randomly for everything, it is important to consistently punish one particular bad behavior, so that your child understands that particular bad behavior is something that should be avoided. It is important to explain the reason of punishment to your child, as it will prevent them from the feeling of being punished and will make them feel about their actions.
Shouting or spanking is not a solution for misbehavior of your kid so choose discipline methods that aren’t bad for kids. Do not use physical punishments, spanking or striking your child will teach them to attack others, a new way to express their anger.
Don’t criticize your kids constantly, constant criticism will make them feel that they are good for nothing and it will make them stop trying altogether.
Taking away all the privileges is one of the ways of punishment. When they break rules, taking away all the privileges is the best plan of action. It will help your child to follow the rules you have made for them.
It is important for you to maintain a warm relationship with your child. So don’t be harsh while punishing them, instead make them feel they are wrong in a positive way. Don’t humiliate them – It will help you to cherish your relationship with your kids.
