Parents role is different for each level of child's development. They have to change their role accordingly. Teenage phase of child's development is very different and sensitive, so in such phase parents should act more carefully with their teenage child.
Following tips can help you in teenage development.
- Parenting a teenage child can be tough. Try to communicate freely with your child about surrounding issues related to physical and sexual maturity when he/she is going through teenage phase. In this stage, teenagers often feel ashamed talking to parents about these issues.
- Teenage years can be tough enough, as teenagers are often sensitive about how to appear to others and also how to react when they are presented in front of others. In such cases, parents should have friendly relation with them.
- Always stay in touch with your child's teachers, as children spend their most of the time in school and teachers know the behavioral patterns of children better.
- You should be consistent and fair enough in your own behavior, as this will help you to understand the feelings and behavior of your child and on that basis you can easily deal with your child's problem if any.
- Allow your child the freedom to figure out the things in his or her own manner within the boundaries you have set, and also make sure that your child does not make any mistake that have lifelong consequences.
- If your teenage child is using drugs or alcohol then discuss with him/her about this issue and try to solve the problem with proper understanding and if necessary seek advice from doctor.
- Gradually build a trust with your child which will help them to feel free when he/she talks with you about sensitive subject, and always be prepared for answering your child, because in this stage children have many queries in their mind and require proper answer of that queries.
